Walter A Friedly Scholarships
Two (2) $2,000 scholarships will be given to 4th year, 5th year or graduate accounting students. To be eligible, student must also be a Broward County resident and attending either FAU, UF, or FSU.
This scholarship was established by Harriet Friedly to honor her husband and is held with the Community Foundation of Broward.
Mr. Friedly and his family moved from Kenmore, NY to Ft. Lauderdale in 1957. He began his career in financial management with Ring, Mahoney and Arnor, now known as Cooper & Lybrand. He then went on to become Executive Vice President for Sanford Industries. In 1968 Mr. Friedly became comptroller-secretary of the newly formed Alpine Engineered Products, Pompano Beach, Florida. At Alpine, Mr. Friedly held the positions of comptroller-general manager, secretary-treasurer and Vice President-Finance. Mr. Friedly was instrumental in the growth and development of the company. Mr. Friedly had many ties in the local community. He was a member of the Ft. Lauderdale Yacht Club, The Ft. Lauderdale Golf and Country Club, and the Executive Association of Ft. Lauderdale. He was also a member of the University of Buffalo Alumni Association. He was a founding member of St. Benedict's Episcopal Church and served as Church elder and treasurer in the Church's early years. He was was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1947 and received the Victory Medal.
